February 2025 Reads

Books I read in February 2025.

A slow reading month. I moved to another city in February. Still unpacking!

1. Cathedral

— Raymond Carver
My new favorite collection of Carver short stories. Brilliant and my book of the month.

Book cover: I Who Have never Known Men

2. A Month In the Country

— J. L. Carr
Loved this bucolic and sentimental slow burn of a tale of missed opportunities.

3. Tales From the Cafe

— Toshikazu Kawaguchi
The second in five installments of this simple story of time travel and what-ifs.

4. People From My Neighborhood

— Hiromi Kawakami
A collection of very short stories. A bit of a mixed bag, and nothing particularly memorable. I much prefer The Ten Loves of Mr Nishino that I read in August.

5. White Holes

— Carlo Rovelli
Great science writing about black holes that ‘rebound’ into theoretical white holes.

6. Buddha

— Karen Armstrong
I now know a little more about the Buddha — and Buddhas.

7. Time Shelter

— Georgi Gospdinov
Loved the concept and the first 100-or-so pages, but the latter two-thirds rather bored me. Would have made a better novella without all the unnecessary tangents.

Read about my 10+ favorite books of 2025.
