April 2025 Reads

Books I read in April 2025.

A Jean Rhys month.

1. The Post-Office Girl

— Stefan Zweig
Loved every page of this. Couldn’t put it down. Zweig at his best. My book of the month.

Book cover: I Who Have never Known Men

2. Wide Sargasso Sea

— Jean Rhys
Great storytelling. Part one is narrated by Antoinette, and is by far the best part of the novel.

3. Good Morning, Midnight

— Jean Rhys
My new favorite Jean Rhys novel, edging out Wide Sargasso Sea by a whisker. I would happily have followed the protagonist Sasha for another 1,000 pages.

4. Ten Birds that Changed the World

— Stephen Moss
My only non-fiction read this month. Great read. And I now know a little more about birds. Love the cover too.

5. Flight Without End

— Joseph Roth
An epic take in just 144 pages. I’m a huge Joseph Roth fan, and this one feels his most personal.

6. The Collected Short Stories

— Jean Rhys
What can I say. I’m enjoying Jean Rhys. Although I wouldn’t recommend this for those new to Rhys.

7. The Factory

— Hiroko Oyamada
Liked the setup. Great story idea and good writing, but it just failed to pay off.
